Erasmus+ Mobility in Lamego - Portugal

Our Planet Earth – the space of beauty

The fourth Erasmus+ mobility of the ECO Echo project, at the Latino Coelho School Group, in  Lamego, took place between 26 and 31 March 2023. The subtopic of this mobility, related to sustainability and threats to the environment, was “Our Planet Earth – the space of beauty“.

The countries that make up this project are: Portugal, Estonia, Spain, Greece and Turkey.  On the first day there was a reception in the auditorium of the Latino Coelho School Group.  After a musical moment with La Tuna, the activities that would be carried out  this week were presented and all the partners participated in the Reading  Week programme. Students from each partner country presente a short text or poem in their own language, and two Portuguese students read a poem-message in English, written by them, articulating feelings of nostalgia that the project would leave with what was learned over these three years.

On this day, short videos of the work of each school on the sub-theme “Beautiful Landscapes of my country” were also shown. After lunch, students and teachers visited the Museum of Lamego and took a virtual tour of it, followed by a workshop. This activity consisted of the groups selecting an emblematic work of the museum and writing something about it. This workshop was held outdoors, as part of the project's sub-theme: the beautiful landscapes of Lamego.

The second day began with a visit to the Biological Park, which included a guided tour and workshops related to environmental issues, with the various groups enjoying Mother Nature in search of plant species that would form part of a hotel for insects. After lunch, all participants visited historic and emblematic places in the old part of the city: the castle, the interpretive center of the castle of Lamego, the cistern, the streets and alleys of this neighborhood and, finally, the Teatro Ribeiro Conceição. Here there was even a moment of music, movement and drama that ended with the hearing of two classical themes on the piano by a Turkish student.

During the third day, participants participated in workshops,

which included painting, drawing, interaction and creative thinking. The evaluation of the Q-cumber platform also continued in groups, by country, with the inclusion of photos and situations related to the environment, leading to the verbal interaction of the positive and less positive aspects that exist on planet Earth. After lunch, students played board games, traditional Portuguese games and table tennis.

The professors had time for a management meeting and reflection on the project. After the meeting, they went on a trip to learn more about national and local culture and traditions. On the fourth day, participants took a guided tour of the Douro Museum and visited a Quinta do Douro. The farewell ceremony and delivery of certificates were also organized on the same day. The last day of the working week started early with the departure to Porto, where all the partners spent the whole day learning more about the Portuguese culture and landscape. Alongside all these activities, throughout the week, the Portuguese students interacted in the activities as well as lived together and shared moments of gastronomy, dance, songs and aspects of the architecture of the city, just among themselves, during the moments when they were not involved. Directly, into assignments at school.

What we heard faithfully testified to the joy, the picturesque and the wild party, an atmosphere that was lived in this city often visited by this Nobel Prize winner, but which is still felt today when walking through its streets and squares. On the Q-Cumber platform, all partners were able to witness and make known the good and bad things their region has in terms of water and the measures taken for its preservation and sustainability.
